Will we accept Gandhi's offering? As we transition from the Season for Nonviolence (1/30 - 4/4), we begin the beyond ... where we imagine and manifest nonviolence, not just during a season, but every day. We continue educating ourselves and advocating for peace. We honor the peace builders, the peacemakers, the peaceful ones. See the end of this Academy Award speech by best actor, Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), thanking the peacemakers everywhere. Join us in the journey of education You are invited to a Zoom on 4/17/2024 at 5 pm PT/ 8 pm ET to learn more about peace weaver Arun Gandhi, founder of the Season for Nonviolence and fifth grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. Click here to join the Zoom. Our guest speaker, Lynnea Bylund, worked with Arun for many years starting in 2009 when they began traveling through Gandhi's India. Lynnea was immediately asked to serve on the Board of Arun's Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute. They worked together on many projects, including spreading the message of nonviolence through Arun's world-wide speaking engagements. Their relationship continued until the day of Arun's death when Lynnea spoke with him by phone. Arun, who grew up under apartheid laws in South Africa, was beaten by "white" South Africans for being too black and by "black" South Africans for being too white. So Arun sought an eye-for-an-eye justice. However, he learned from his parents and grandparents that justice does not mean revenge, justice means transforming the opponent through love and suffering. He lived a life sharing these lessons around the world. It has been almost a year since Arun passed on May 2, 2023. We will spend some time remembering his journey. Lynnea will talk about her connection with Arun and their work together, Arun's relationship with his grandfather and more. To join the Zoom and for more information, see this flyer. |
